Ridges Washcloth

While I love making scarves, shawls, socks, tops, and blankets, sometimes you just need something quick to make to keep that crojo going. While I’ve recently started crocheting these absolutely adorable octopus from crocheting_by_becca, most of the time I reach for something practical, like a washcloth. I’ve recently been obsessed with the seed stitch, so I designed this crochet washcloth featuring this stitch pattern.

Materials

30-40 grams of DK weight yarn. For mine, I’ve been using cotton yarn from Hobbii, which comes in 50 gram skeins.
4.5 mm crochet hook. I’ve recently been obsessed with the Prym ergonomic hooks!
Scissors
Yarn needle

Gauge

15.5 stitches x 16 rows = 4”

Size

9.5” wide and 6.5” tall

Abbreviations

Ch—chain
Sc—single crochet
Dc—double crochet
Hdc—half double crochet
Sl st—slip stitch

Notes

The seed stitch has a half double crochet in the first and last stitch of each row. The stitches in between alternate between single crochet and double crochet. After the first row of the pattern, the following rows work the same stitch type in the one from the row before (sc in sc, dc in dc).

Now, without any more stalling, here is the pattern!

Row 1: Ch 37, sc second ch from hook, sc each chain to the end (36 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, hdc first st, alternate sc and dc in following stitches, placing a hdc in last stitch (36 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, hdc first st, dc in the previous dc, sc in previous sc, continue across, placing a hdc in last stitch (36 sts)

Rows 7-21: Alternate Rows 5 and 6

Row 22: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 23: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 24: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Row 25: Ch 1, sc across (36 sts)

Turn, ch 1, sl st across. After last st, ch 1 and sl st down the side. Repeat for all four sides. After last sl st, ch 1 and sl st to first sl st. FO, and weave in ends.
